The MAC Address and Connecting the App
The installation process consists of these steps:
Step 1:Download and install the MAC Editor app,
Step 2: Download and install the Caravan Mover app,
Step 3: Download the wiring schematic diagram.
Step 4: Use the above MAC Editor app the create and edit a MAC Address,
Step 5: Run the target app and pair the Remote Control unit.
Step 6: Run the target app and connect to the Remote Control unit.
Step 7: Identify all terminals to which electric connections must be made.
What Is a MAC Address?
A MAC Address is a 6-byte hexadecimal number that uniquely identifies a Bluetooth device. Every Bluetooth device has one and that is what makes each Bluetooth device unique. Bluetooth devices identify each other by their MAC address, but each Bluetooth device can also be assigned a name which can make it more recognisable by humans.
What is a Byte?
A byte is an 8 bit-wide unit of data that digital machines move between components. A bit is the most basic unit of data, it can have only two possible values - 0 or 1, represented by the electrical state of a single conductor. A byte can carry 2 to the power of 8 different values between 0 and 255. That's 265 unique values. For convenience a byte is often broken into two 4 bit nibbles when we want to enumerate the value of the data contained within the byte.
What Is Hexadecimal?
Each of the 4-bit nibbles mentioned above can carry 16 different values (2 to the power of 4). In the same way that we need 10 unique symbols to describe all ten possible values of a decimal digit, we need 16 symbols to describe the value of the nibble. The symbols 0 to 9 and A to F are used for this purpose. There's 16 symbols needed and those are called the Hexadecimal numbers. The 16 possible binary combinations and their Hexadecimal symbols are shown like this:
0000 = 0
0001 = 1
0010 = 2
0011 = 3
0100 = 4
0101 = 5
0110 = 6
0111 = 7
1000 = 8
1001 = 9
1010 = A
1011 = B
1100 = C
1101 = D
1110 = E
1111 = F
By putting two nibbles together to make a byte their corresponding hexadecimal value mean the a byte can contain anything from 00 to FF hex, and that's 16 x 16, or 256 different values. A MAC address, being 6 bytes wide can therefore contain any value between 00:00:00:00:00:00 to FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF, which is 256 to the power of 6, or a little less than 282 trillion unique values.
Step 1: Install the MAC Editor app.
Click Here to install the MAC Editor app on this mobile device. If you are not on the target device change to that now. Depending on the version of Android you are using you'll get some confirmation and some cautionary messages. Choose to options required to get the app installed.
Step 2: Install the target app.
Select the app you want above and follow the Android screen prompts. By-pass any cautionary messages that you are presented with. The code for the app is digitally signed and cannot be tampered with. It is therefore totally safe to install.
Step 3: Download the wiring schematic diagram if you are installing Caravan Mover.
Click Here to download the schematic. This is a CAD drawing in .pdf format and is best displayed on a larger screen than that of a mobile phone, so you should download this onto a computer.
Step 4: Create and Edit the MAC Address
Tap the MAC Editor icon to start the app. You will see that shown a far left. Since there is most likely not yet a MyFiles directory one will be created, as the message shows.
Tap the radio button next to Caravan Mover and you will see the image shown at right. A blank MAC address file has been created and filled with placeholder data - a series of Xs. These X characters must now be replaced with the MAC address shown on the sticker attached to the Remote Control unit. If any of these placeholder characters are copied to the MAC address file the Caravan Mover app will exit prematurely
Double tap each field to first clear it and then fill as per the MAC address sticker. Only valid hexadecimal characters will be accepted and no field may be longer then 2 hex characters. You will see something similar to that shown at left.
When you are satisfied with the contents of all 6 fields tap the SAVE button and you will see that shown at right. You may now EXIT the app or tap the Caravan Mover radio button again to confirm the correct value has been stored in the destination file.
Step 5: Run Target App and Pair with the Remote Control
Tap the target app'sicon to start the app. The app will ask Android to initiate the Bluetooth connection process to the Remote Control unit. If the Remote Control unit is switched on and in range there will be communication between it and Android and a determination will be made as to whether these units have already been paired - an essential one-time event that takes place between the Android operating system and the Remote Control using the MAC address entered above. Android will not permit connection to the device if it has not been paired first. The pairing utility will ask for a pin code to be entered. This code is always 1234. The app will most likely exit normally at this point
Step 6: Run Caravan Mover (for example) and Connect to the Remote Control
Start the Caravan Mover app again by tapping its icon. The app will immediately attempt to connect with the MAC address contained in the appropriate text file. (If the MAC address cannot be found or the MAC address is deemed illegal by containing non-hexadecimal characters the app will already have closed down by this time). In the majority of cases the connect will be successful and a blue rune will be displayed at top left of the screen as seen at left.
Try pressing all buttons and legal combinations of buttons. The Remote Control unit returns a status message and any output relays that are in the energised state will be shown as grey arrows overlaying the corresponding button.
When something goes wrong and the two are unable to connect a message is displayed as shown at right. The MAC address may be compared to the one on the sticker at this point.
The Bluetooth protocol is extremely complex and many internal processes are left to the autonomous modules to resolve. Sometimes a few restarts are required to produce a successful connection. If this does the trick, well and good. If not refer the Troubleshooting page for further options prior to contacting support
Step7: Caravan Mover: Identify all Terminals to be Connected
Display on a large screen and, if possible, print the schematic downloaded above, or download it here. The connections to be into the ewiks installation are marked with red rings. Where there are existing cables between the external plug and the ewiks switchgear you need to identify the most suitable place to connect into that cable, considering factors such as cable lengths, convenience, and cable security.
